White spots form in the enamel for a variety of reasons. Sometimes white spots form during orthodontic treatment when plaque is difficult to remove because of the orthodontic brackets on the teeth. Similar white spots or white lines can form during prolonged periods of inadequate plaque removal during daily hygiene and/or the consumption of acidic beverages, candies or foods.
These white spots can be removed or reduced by the application of special dental pastes that restore the calcium to the enamel and eliminate or reduce white spots.
Some white spots and/or brown stains are to high concentrations of fluoride in water supplies or tooth paste ingestion as a small child. Many times these white spots can also be removed and/or reduced in intensity.
Dr. Wood can evaluate your white spot lesions and see if you are a candidate for white spot or brown stain removal and/or reduction.
